Pin Marking

Pin marking (also referred to as stylus marking and dot peen marking) is a pneumatically or electromechanically controlled carbide tip assembly that strikes the surface of a part in a succession of dots to create a permanent mark. Unlike laser marking, pin marking always involves the removal of material.  Depending on the marking speed parameters, pin marking can create light, moderate or deep marks into the surface of a part.

What Are The Advantages Of Pin Marking?

Pin marking technology is computer controlled and allows for a great deal of flexibility. Pin marking machines are relatively compact in size and can be integrated into production lines in addition to being used as standalone or handheld units. A vast range of font choices, logo creation, barcodes and other dynamic information can be marked on your parts using this technology. They are best used on metal parts and some hardened plastics.

The marking process is generally fast and accurate. Automation options are available, making it suitable for high-volume marking in industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, and manufacturing.

GT SCHMIDT manufacturers a variety of pin marking machines that are available as column-mounted benchtop systems, portable hand-held units, or separate marking heads for in-line integration and automation. They can be equipped with a variety of accessories and options to help simplify or even automate your marking process.
