Marking & Engraving Firearms

All firearms must be identified by a serial number and other specified markings as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the National Firearms Act (NFA). The serial number must be placed in a manner not susceptible of being readily obliterated, altered, or removed and must not duplicate any serial number placed on any other firearm. The serial number must be engraved or marked on the receiver of the firearm and the caliber, model, and identification of the manufacturer must be engraved on the barrel or frame or receiver of the weapon.

Marking Machines & Engraving Systems

At GT SCHMIDT, we specialize in the design, manufacture, and integration of industrial marking machines for product identification and traceability applications. Our comprehensive range of marking and engraving systems includes standard in-stock models, as well as custom-designed solutions tailored to your specific part size and application requirements.

Our marking machines provide a variety of benefits for firearm manufacturers:

  • Traceability: Permanent marks enable the tracking and tracing of firearm parts throughout their lifecycle, from manufacturing to maintenance and eventual retirement. This traceability is essential for quality control, regulatory compliance, and safety assurance.
  • Identification: Permanent marks serve as unique identifiers for firearm parts, allowing them to be distinguished from one another and ensuring accurate inventory management.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Firearm manufacturers must comply with stringent regulations and industry standards governing part identification and traceability. Our laser and pin marking machines can create permanent and tamper-proof markings that comply with requirementsmandated by organizations such as the ATF and NFA.
  • Precision and Accuracy: Our marking machines provide precise and accurate markings, which are essential for part identification and traceability. This precision helps in avoiding errors that could arise from misreading or misidentifying parts.

GT SCHMIDT is an FFL licensed manufacturer of marking machines for engraving ATF required identification of firearms, rifles, pistols, shotguns, and other firearm components. Our marking systems can be equipped with part fixturing for holding and locating the firearms during the marking process, as well as readers and verifiers for 2D barcodes. GT SCHMIDT has the capabilities to completely customize any of our marking systems to perfectly fit your firearm identification needs.
