EASILY TRACK PARTS WITH SCANNABLE ID MARKS

Many industries have standards and regulations that require manufacturing companies to create trackable ID marks on their parts and products. The information required can be too long to fit on the part or product. Additionally, the information may not be intended for the public eye. Barcodes provide a solution for both of these situations.

With barcode marking, information is stored in a pattern of bars, cells, and spaces. These barcodes can be quite small, especially when compared to the amount of information it holds. The barcodes are also unreadable to the naked eye. A barcode reader is neccessary to see and understand the information stored in them.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BARCODES?

There are two types of barcodes for tracking. A one-dimensional (1D) barcode is the type of barcode we are most familiar. We see them on the packaging for pretty much every product that we can purchase. Identifiable product information is stored in the code in a horizontal pattern of bars and spaces.

Several versions of 1D barcodes store only numerical data while others can encode additional characters. The height of the code varies based on the space available on a product and the ability of a barcode reader to read a small or large sized barcode.

A two-dimensional (2D) code stores data both horizontally and vertically. This extra dimension allows the code to hold significantly more data than a 1D barcode. A 2D code is commonly referred to as a 2D data matrix or 2D dot matrix.

WHICH MARKING MACHINES CAN CREATE BARCODES?

Barcodes can be made by our GeoMARK lasers, Styliner and Scribeliner pin markers, and EBS-260 inkjet printer. We also sell fixed and handheld barcode readers. Together, we have everything you need for product identification, reliable recognition, and accurate part tracking. Call us at 847-647-7117 to learn more about our product tracking solutions.
