Large Custom Laser Enclosure For Aerospace Marking Application
An aerospace manufacturer came to us in need of a laser marking system with a custom enclosure. Their production process required laser marking the top of extremely tall parts that they couldn't fit inside a standard laser marking enclosure. With critical part identification requirements, this aerospace manufacturer needed a safe and efficient laser marking solution that could accommodate their tall parts.
The Challenge: Laser Marking Large Aerospace Parts
Too Tall for Standard Enclosures
Laser marking systems are typically designed with compact enclosures. However, our aerospace client had parts close to nine feet tall. Typical laser enclosures couldn't accommodate the height.
This lack of a proper enclosure presented several pain points:
- Safety risks due to open marking setups
- Inconsistent marking quality
- Slowed manufacturing caused by inefficient marking of large parts
The Solution: Designing and building A Custom 12-Foot-Tall Laser Enclosure
GT SCHMIDT engineered a fully custom laser marking enclosure that stands 12 feet tall, tailored specifically to this aerospace application. The enclosure meets class 1 safety standards, so it can safely be operated without protective eyewear.
In order to easily place and remove the large parts, the laser enclosure was designed with a large door and no bottom, allowing operators to easily wheel in the tall components and position them under the laser for precise top-surface marking.
The Result: A Safe and Efficient Laser Marking Solution For Large Parts
With this new enclosure, our aerospace manufacturing customer can now safely and quickly position and mark the large parts while maintaining consistent mark quality. Most importantly, the solution eliminated safety concerns and brought the process into full compliance with laser regulations.
For aerospace manufacturers (and any business with non-standard part sizes!) GT SCHMIDT’s custom laser solutions provide performance and protection beyond off-the-shelf equipment.
